Looking for offers of help / declarations of expertise we may look to call upon in 2026 either as Committee persons – or as supporting members in specific areas
Just to clarify that in addition to the named Committee positions per the email/Members Notice on 21 Sept (below), the club would be delighted to hear from members who feel they maybe able to help in certain topic areas in 2026, but who do not want to necessarily be put forward for the Committee at this time (note AGM Weds 29 Oct)
We have identified that we need for supporting resource / competence –
more IT expertise, notably in our website and operation / maintenance of Clubspark
Venue management expertise – notably in formally administering – a) the services we buy in, and b) the club hirers
Going forward other capabilities will no doubt be required – particularly in the 2026 project to refresh / revitalise the clubhouse – so we would likely form a small working team on that and look for Project volunteers at that time to steer the task

CLUBHOUSE SECURITY
Please ensure that windows are closed when you are last to leave the clubhouse. There have been several occasions lately where windows have been left open.
Food/drinks will be available from 1pm on Saturday and Sunday – Filled rolls and cakes, tea/coffee and bar drinks
Unfortunately, the club wifi is not working, so please can members and their visitors try to bring CASH to pay for their entry and any food, drink or balls. We will accept Bank transfers if necessary but this must reference what was purchased, eg, balls, food, entry fee

Junior success in Junior Summer League
We entered 17 teams in the Leicestershire Youth Summer League. Fifty-seven players took part and we played forty-six matches. Seven of those teams were winners of their divisions!

The end of season tournament will be held from 6th September to 14th September. We want to run events on single days as detailed below up to semi-final stage and have the finals on the 13th and 14th of September.- although this may depend on the number of entries.

Sunday Afternoon – from 1pm – Mixed Doubles and Vets mixed Doubles
Monday Evening – Mens Singles and Men’s Vets Singles

I am sorry to bring you sad news about the passing of one of our club members. Marjorie Braint.
Marjorie was in fact our longest serving member who created a legacy that past, current and future members benefit from and her contribution to our Oadby Tennis Club is remembered below:
Marjorie joined the club initially in the 1950’s and after a brief period away from Leicester, rejoined in 1962 and had been a member ever since.
Together with her husband Roger, Marjorie was heavily involved in the day to day life of the club over a period of some 50 years, including countless hours of volunteering at social events aimed at raising necessary funds to enable the purchase of the land, building the clubhouse and installing floodlights.
They gave their own money to support certain activities and were made Life Members in 1982. In later years, after Marjorie no longer played tennis, she and Roger continued to support the club and in particular enjoyed watching and supporting the various teams and the annual club tournament
Their children, Caroline, Wendy (deceased) and John have all been members at one time, and John is still one of our most active (and now longest serving) members.

SUMMER LEAGUE TEAM RESULTS

And well done to everyone else who turned out to represent our club in the summer league.
WINTER LEAGUE
We are just in the process of entering the club into the Leicestershire Winter Leagues, and would like to know of any men who are interested in playing for the men’s team. Kevin Rossell has offered to captain the team, which we expect to be at the level of the men’s 3rd team in previous years.

BUILDING WORK
Building work on the garden room will be starting on 19th August and take around 3 weeks. The metal gate will be closed, so entry and exit will be by using the wooden gate behind court 1. Children under 12 must be supervised at all times in the garden area whilst building work is being done.
DEMENTIA GROUP HIRING
The clubhouse is being hired out on Tuesdays starting from 5th August. We appreciate that members will have limited access for drinks until the garden room is completed but it is for a short time only, and will help contribute to the cost of fitting out the garden room
LADIES CHARITY EVENT

END OF YEAR FINALS PLAYOFF – LADIES 1ST TEAM
Come down and show your support for our Ladies 1st team on SATURDAY 19TH JULY from 12pm!
Our NCL team have fought their way to the playoff position this year after their debut year in the top division.
A win on the day would mark a first in OGTC history and see us heading to Bournemouth for the end of year National finals at the end of the Summer! Where the best of the best in the country fight to become national champions!
Our opponents on Saturday 19th are David Lloyd Raynes Park, an experienced London team who will be travelling up to us on the day to battle it out.
We need ALL the support we can get, cheering us on and giving us the boost we need to win! Can you join us?
The quality of tennis is set to be high, with county and national players playing for both teams!!!
We can’t wait to see you all there!!!
UPDATE FROM TENNIS LEICESTERSHIRE

The Committe has learnt of the sad passing of John Bishop who was a life member of the club. John was Chairman of the club in 1967/68 and again in 1978/79 and was was part of the committe who negotiated the purchase of the grounds in the mid 1970’s from the previous owner who wanted to develop the land by building flats. John gifted funds to the club to ensure the purchase could be completed instead of the land being developed into flats.
Captain of the second team for many seasons he gave a lot of juniors their first opprotunity of team tennis and was a well respected memeer of the club. Laterly, John and his wife moved south to be nearer their children and grand children,
